Biography

Csaba grew up in Hungary and started playing drums when he was 15.  He moved to Canada in 1993 and continues to perform many different genres of music. At present, with his own music, his interest lies in traditional jazz which he infuses with Latin flavor.

Drummer Csaba Kanyasi has been playing music for over 40 years.  Jazz is Csaba’s main passion, he performs with his Csaba Kanyasi Quartet.  A resident of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, Csaba was born in Hungary where he attended the Béla Bartók Jazz College in Budapest.  Later he studied jazz at Macquarie University in Adelaide, Australia. Since moving to Canada, Csaba has performed with a great number of talented musicians including Mike Murley, Jeff Riley, Jamie Gatti, Silvio Pupo and Sylvie Proulx. He has also played in variety of ensembles including the Shirley Jackson band and Alma Latina and currently he is a member of Flamenco En Rouge. He enjoys participating in jazz and multicultural festivals across Canada.

Musically Csaba’s main interests lie in working with jazz instrumentalists performing jazz standards with a touch of Latin flavor.  In this way, he creates a special fusion which can truly be considered his own.
